Re: [Foildesign] Re: Paraglider

Hi there,

I'm a paraglider designer, my brand is Bio Air Technologies :

www;bio-air-technologies.com

When I started to build my first own paraglider in '95, I was really amazed that
there is almost no
"home made" community. In each "flying" discipline, there is one : air models,
amateur airplanes or sailplanes, etc...
Your kite domain is one of the most active I know.

The PG community never had any willing to develop amateur domain. More than
this, the PG community never had any willing to develop
whole understanding of the pilots for their flying machines. I really think it's
a pity. Even the "false" reason why is a pity :
"you know Olivier, if anybody can build his own from a building plan, there will
be a problem for commercial companies..."
hhrrrmmm : as far as I know, air models, and kite, have a nice commercial
development, no ???

I have in mind, for long time now, to help development of amateur "home made"
paragliders.
Some ways :

give or sell for symbolic fee, some building plans of well known gliders,
certified models.
develop understanding of mains constraints and rules for design
develop and propose some "hints" for building or design
develop and propose some tools or rules for basic safety verification.

I know I'm not alone in this case. I know I only have some of I depicted, and I
know there is a lot of work to reach whole objectives.
I intend to propose my Bionic 2 design around end of next year, to home builders
(in fact : when I'll have designed the Bionic 3 ;-)

Martin, I can tell you there is absolutely no need for "CFD" to design a
paraglider !
I design mine, specifications oriented (i.e. not only CAD design but preliminary
design for performance, handling and safety needs),
with only XFOIL and linear aerodynamics, lifting line, etc...

PG is one of the simplest machines. Almost as simple as air model... Do you use
CFD for air model design ?

Please, let CFD for what it is : a numeric wind tunnel. Not a design tool ;-))
Even for fighters...

I'm OK to start discussion about design.

my best regards,

Olivier
